Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
Dolly Parton launched the Imagination Library in 1995 to foster an early love of reading and learning in
her hometown of Sevier County, Tenn. The Imagination Library has since become the highest quality,
most recognizable and most effective book gifting resource in the world. Policy makers, funders, early
childhood organizations and families trust The Imagination Library to inspire a love of reading among
children of all ages.
This premier program mails free high-quality, age-appropriate books to registered children every month
from birth to age 5. Children enrolled from birth receive 60 books by the time they graduate from the
Imagination Library program. The Foundation covers overhead costs and negotiates wholesale pricing for
the books, while local community partners fundraise to cover the cost of mailing and decided-upon
wholesale book prices.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
What's 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten?
Reading to preschool aged children builds vocabulary and language skills, establishes a love of books, and creates fond memories of reading together.
Listening to books being read aloud helps children with skills they need to be be ready for kindergarten. Children learn patterns in language, rhyming words, and how stories flow. This program is self paced and easy for parents and children to participate in. By reading just one book a day to your child, you will be able to reach 1000 books before the age of three. Modeling reading to your child will help them become lifelong readers.
Stop by the children's desk or apply for the 1,000 Books Challenge on the Beanstack app to learn more about this program and get on your way to raising a successful reader. Check out our wall of graduates in the children's area.
Reader Rewards
Besides developing a love of reading, participants will win rewards along the way! Receive prizes for badges earned. Graduates also get their picture posted on the wall of graduates at the library.
